Gunung Arong, Johor
Gunung Arong, Johor stands at 273m, is really more of a hill than a mountain. It is, however, the highest point in Mersing Johor and thus is known affectionally as a mountain to the locals.
The hike is relatively easy and it is made more interesting with a few steep terrains which can be scaled using the ropes provided. You will find yourself on a jungle trail for most parts of the hike. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. It kind of reminded me of Bukit Timah Hill. It will take about 2 hours to reach the peak. The summit offers splendid views of the South China Sea and the Tanjung Resang.
After the hike, the base of Gunung Arong opens up to a lovely coastal walk where you have to cross large boulders and a river. Be prepared to get your land shoes wet! You will reach the Tanjung Resang Beach after crossing where it is a popular destination to just chill, relax and enjoy the beach. You can also visit the nearby Mersing Resorts to extend your stay.
We rank Gunung Arong, Johor 3 stars out of 5 regarding ease to climb the mountain, it is suitable for beginner to intermediate level hikers.
