Kahang Organic Rice Eco Farm, Kahang, Johor is located in between Kluang and Mersing district (KM 43, Jalan Kluang – Mersing, 86 700 Kluang, Johor, Malaysia). It is home to the first organic rice farm that is coupled with agriculture tourism. Depending on how long you will like to spend on each activity, it will cost RM 60.00 per adult and RM 48.00 per child for half a day or RM 70.00 per adult and RM 60.00 per child for one full day.
The farm spans over 260 acres of arable, fertile land due to its strategic location. It lies next to the Sungei Madek and Gunung Belumut forest reserves. Water from the farm is channelled by irrigation from the clean Sungei Madek. A natural lake about five hectares in size opens up by the farm, where it is perfect for water activities. Two large fields which double up as campsites are found beside the lake. The wetland areas between the lake and fields occupy about 50,000 square metres, providing an excellent habitat for a wide diversity of flora and fauna. There is also a 120 metres long sandy beach for you to rest your tired feet.
Some activities to do at the Kahang Organic Rice Eco Farm (KOREF) includes a tour around the rice paddy fields where you can learn about the different stages of rice farming – weeding, rice seedling-transplant and harvesting. You can also learn about how they channel water from the river and maintain the irrigation of the paddy fields. If it is the harvesting season, you can get hands-on experience to harvest the rice. Such activities allow kids to experience something different and also to appreciate the simpler things in life.
Other activities include fishing at the ponds using big trawl nets, bamboo rafting at the wetlands or challenging the Asli water obstacle course. For the adventurous, you can follow a jungle route create via the indigenous people alongside Sungei Madek or rent a bicycle and explore the vast Kahang Organic Rice Eco Farm while enjoying the light breeze on your face.
KOREF also provides accommodation on site. You can choose the traditional chalets or one of the four floating chalets by the lake. The floating chalets are uniquely designed and away from each other, making it perfect for families who values their privacy. Enjoy the sunset via the lake and get ready to fill your stomach with barbeque by the jetty at night.
