The Melaka Zoo & Night Safari, Malacca (Jalan Hang Tuah Jaya, Ayer Keroh, 75450, Malacca) is about a 30 minutes drive from downtown Malacca and is right next to the Mini Malaysia & Mini ASEAN Park, Malacca. The zoo covers 54 acres of land and is the second largest zoo in Malaysia. Established since 1963, it has been home to some unique animals including the Red Panda, the Malayan Gaur Oxen, the Malayan Tiger, the Malayan Sun Bear and the Sumatran Rhinoceros.
Apart from viewing animals behind the closed enclosure, the zoo also offers open concept night safari to facilitate viewing of animals in close range. The 1.5-hectare Safari is built to allow animals to roam freely. Visitors can also take a tram to view the nocturnal wildlife. Some animals include impalas, zebras, deer and emus. The zoo also encourages animal breeding and conversation, where tigers, tapirs and panthers among others were bred successfully. The zoo provides an entertaining and educational approach to engage the public, making the zoo a top attraction in Malacca and Malaysia.
